You can see by that satellite photo how large an area can be on fire, the ferocity of the flames is unbelievable, so is the generated heat in the general area, add a little wind and you have a disaster of great magnitude. Loss of life, fauna and vegetation, tragic.You guys would know all about it as you have bush fires in the US as well...
yes, but two major differences...#1 the plumes are headed inland most times#2 we don't have a sandstorm of that magnitude ever. At least, not since the great dust storms of the twenties. Still, I don't think they were this big
